Lasting Powers of Attorney

I can assist you prepare and register your Lasting Powers of Attorney with the Office of the Public Guardian.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows you (the ‘donor’) to appoint a person or people known as (‘attorney(s)) to make decisions on your behalf if you become unable to make your own decisions in the future.

It allows you to plan ahead for a time when or if you lose mental capacity.  It often provides peace of mind that the person or people you have chosen and trust will makes decisions for you.

There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney:

Property and Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney – This will allow your attorney(s) to manage your financial affairs to include:

Looking after your bank accounts, savings or investments
Paying bills
Buying and selling property on your behalfs
Claiming welfare benefits on your behalf

Personal Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney – This will allow your attorney(s) to manage your healthcare in the event that you are ill, disabled or mentally unwell. These include decisions concerning:

Your daily routine, including what you wear and eat
Where you live
Medical care

You can choose one or both.
